History
Naked April began as the live-performance subset of One Week In April.
As befits those origins, the band has, besides the original core members (Nick, Shane, Kent, & James), and a few who have joined the band for a time (such as Eric McKenna), two "perennially absent members" (Geoffrey Bennett and Ben Pendleton), and a few part-time members.
The band began working on their first album in 1997, but the different lives, careers, and musical directions repeatedly delayed completion.
In the fall of 2000, during their traditional music retreat in New Mexico, the band members jump-started the project once again, and the album Flower In My Fist was completed the following spring, and released in the fall of 2001.
Following the addition of Eric McKenna to the group in 2003, the band used its next retreat to begin working on the follow-up album to Flower In My Fist.
They recorded basic tracks in a cabin in the Uintah mountains of Utah, and completed additional recording and mixing in the Spring of 2004.
The result, Eloquent Disease, was released in July of 2004.
Current Projects
The band has begun working on a new album (tentatively titled Design Flaw, incorporating new group compositions from the semi-annual retreats, as well as solo compositions by band members;
the anticipated release date is fall 2006.
Gigs
In addition to working on the new album, the band is ramping up for another season of apres ski performances at the Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah, breaking that up with the occasional acoustic show at the Sun & Moon Café (also in the Salt Lake City area);
they also play at clubs, parties, and (for a good cause) the occasional benefit.
The performances range from acoustic shows in intimate settings to fully "plugged-in" gigs in clubs and outdoor venues, with the repertoire reflecting the place, the mood, and the moment.
The band is available to perform in Northern Utah (and sometimes in Northern New Mexico), though other locations can be negotiated.
